Best Cloud-Based Dental Software (2026)

Last updated: March 2026 Who this is for: Practices ready to ditch on-premises servers and move to cloud dental software — or starting fresh and wanting cloud from day one. This guide covers only true cloud platforms, with honest notes on which are cloud-native vs. remote-desktop cloud.

Cloud Architecture Matters — Here's Why

Not all "cloud" is the same. There are three types, and the difference affects your daily experience:

Cloud-native means the software was built for the browser from scratch. Nothing runs locally except your web browser. Updates happen automatically. You access it from any device. This is the gold standard.

Remote Desktop cloud means the software was built for Windows and is hosted on a remote server that you access through a remote connection. It works, but the experience is slower, more dependent on connection quality, and updates still require the traditional process.

On-premises with cloud sync means the software runs locally but backs up data to the cloud. This isn't really "cloud" — it's backup with extra steps.

We note which type each vendor uses below.

Our Top Cloud Picks

Best Cloud-Native All-in-One: Curve Dental

Architecture: Cloud-native (Microsoft Azure) Pricing: Not published — two tiers visible (Hero/SuperHero) Best for: Solo to small group practices switching from legacy systems

Curve has been cloud-native since inception. Patient engagement (Curve GRO) is included. Unlimited eClaims included. 24/7/365 support. Native cloud imaging on the SuperHero tier means X-rays go directly to the cloud — no local capture and sync. 2,500+ completed migrations, many from on-premises Dentrix and Eaglesoft.

The Curve FLO AI roadmap (Pearl AI imaging, Bola AI voice charting, Ask CurveAI) is building toward a comprehensive AI suite, though some features are still in development.

Why it's here: The most complete cloud-native experience for practices that want one subscription replacing everything. Read our full Curve Dental review →

Best Cloud for DSOs: Denticon (Planet DDS)

Architecture: Cloud-native (since 2003 — 20+ years) Pricing: Not published Best for: Multi-location groups and DSOs (proven at 140+ locations)

Denticon is the cloud veteran. It's been cloud-only since 2003 — over a decade before most competitors started. The client list proves the architecture at scale: Coast Dental (88 locations), Sage Dental (140+), Dental Care Alliance, Smile Brands. Apteryx XVWeb provides native cloud imaging with FDA-cleared AI. 100+ built-in reports. Multi-specialty support across six disciplines. Open API for enterprise integrations.

The DentalOS platform vision — PMS, imaging, payments, marketing, patient engagement — is comprehensive. MyTooth (launched January 2026) and AI Voice Perio (February 2026) show active development.

Why it's here: The longest cloud track record in dental software with proven scale at the largest DSOs. Read our full Denticon review →

Best Cloud for Enterprise Features: CareStack

Architecture: Cloud-native Pricing: Not published Best for: Mid-size groups and DSOs that need AI breadth and compliance certifications

CareStack is the feature-richest cloud platform in the market. 55+ integrations. Four AI imaging partners. AI-powered phones (VoiceStack). AI clinical documentation. Triple security certification (HIPAA + SOC 2 Type 2 + ISO 27001). Specialist workflows for endo, ortho, oral surgery, perio, and pediatrics. Managed RCM option (CareRevenue). #1 on G2 for Dental Practice Management (Spring 2025).

The depth comes with complexity. Solo practices may find it over-engineered. The add-on product strategy (VoiceStack, Aeka, CareRevenue) means total cost can climb beyond the base subscription.

Why it's here: The broadest feature set and strongest compliance credentials in cloud dental software. Read our full CareStack review →

Best Cloud with Published Pricing: DentiMax

Architecture: Remote Desktop cloud (not cloud-native) Pricing: Published — $299/mo (Core), $579/mo (Executive), $699/mo (Unlimited) Best for: Practices that want cloud access with transparent pricing and strong imaging

DentiMax publishes every cloud tier with specific prices and features at each level. Open imaging architecture supports 50+ technologies. Unlimited support at all tiers. The base In-Office tier ($169/mo) is on-premises, but cloud tiers start at $299/month.

Important caveat: DentiMax cloud uses Remote Desktop technology, not a cloud-native browser interface. The experience depends on your connection quality and isn't as seamless as true cloud-native platforms. No AI features.

Why it's here: The only cloud dental PMS with fully published tier pricing. Read our full DentiMax review →

Best Cloud for Consolidation on a Budget: Archy

Architecture: Cloud-native + native mobile app Pricing: Not published — estimated $500-$700/mo Best for: Small practices replacing multiple disconnected tools

Archy is cloud-native with everything built in — PMS, imaging, unlimited texting, payments (POS included), insurance processing, and the Archy Intelligence AI suite. The "replace your 5 separate subscriptions with 1" pitch is specifically designed for practices drowning in vendor relationships.

The support team of former dental office managers is a nice differentiator. The install base is smaller than established competitors, and the AI features are still maturing.

Why it's here: The most aggressive cloud consolidator for practices tired of managing multiple vendors. Read our full Archy review →

Best Cloud with Maximum Flexibility: Open Dental Cloud

Architecture: Remote Desktop cloud (hosted by Open Dental or third-party providers) Pricing: Separate from base subscription — contact vendor Best for: Open Dental users who want cloud access without losing the ecosystem

Open Dental Cloud hosts the software remotely so you access it like a cloud product. You keep the full Open Dental experience — 60+ ecosystem partners, SQL access, open-source code — but without managing local servers. Nine third-party hosting providers also offer cloud hosting options.

Important caveat: Like DentiMax cloud, this is a hosted experience, not a cloud-native rewrite. The base product was designed for local installation. But for practices that want Open Dental's value ($149/mo after year one) and ecosystem without the IT burden, it's a viable path.

Why it's here: Brings Open Dental's best-in-market value and ecosystem to practices that don't want to manage servers. Read our full Open Dental review →

What to Ask Before Choosing Cloud

"Is this cloud-native or Remote Desktop?" Cloud-native means it was built for the browser. Remote Desktop means legacy software hosted remotely. Both work, but the experience is different. Ask directly.

"What happens when my internet goes down?" Some cloud platforms (Archy, Asprodental) offer offline image capture that syncs when connectivity returns. Others stop working entirely. Know the answer before you commit.

"Is imaging included or separate?" Cloud imaging that lives natively in the platform (Curve SuperHero, Denticon/Apteryx) is different from bridging to local imaging software. Ask whether your X-rays live in the cloud or on a local machine.

"What's the total monthly cost with everything I need?" Cloud eliminates server costs but the subscription needs to cover engagement, claims, imaging, and AI to be a fair comparison against on-premises + add-ons.
