What Was ClaimX?
ClaimX was an electronic claims clearinghouse operated by ExtraDent (Computer Aided Technologies), a company that had been providing dental software solutions since 1995. Launched in 2004, ClaimX offered dental practices a way to submit insurance claims electronically, check claim status, verify eligibility, and receive electronic remittance advice (ERA).
The platform was known for competitive pricing — as low as $0.25 per claim compared to the $0.45-0.55 per claim that many practice management systems charged for their built-in clearinghouse connections. ClaimX integrated with Open Dental and other PMS platforms, and offered features including claim printing, NPI number storage, claim status checking, eligibility verification, and electronic attachment support through NEA integration.
What Happened
In June 2022, DentalXChange acquired ExtraDent, including the ClaimX clearinghouse. DentalXChange kept ExtraDent's Virtual Assistants technology but sunsetted the ClaimX clearinghouse product on December 31, 2022. The claimx.com domain is no longer active.
DentalXChange continues to operate as one of the leading dental clearinghouses, offering a broader revenue cycle management platform that includes eligibility verification, claims submission, ERA processing, and patient payment tools.

Alternatives to Consider
| Software | Why consider it |
|---|---|
| DentalXChange | ClaimX's successor — full dental RCM platform with ClaimConnect clearinghouse |
| Vyne Dental (formerly NEA) | Major dental clearinghouse with strong attachment support |
| Availity | Large multi-specialty clearinghouse with dental support |
| Change Healthcare | Enterprise clearinghouse (note: experienced major breach in 2024) |
| Your PMS built-in clearinghouse | Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, and CareStack all have integrated claims workflows |
The Bottom Line
ClaimX no longer exists. It was a solid, affordable clearinghouse in its time, but it was sunsetted at the end of 2022 when DentalXChange acquired its parent company. If you're searching for a dental claims clearinghouse in 2026, look at DentalXChange (the direct successor), Vyne Dental, or the built-in clearinghouse options in your practice management software. Most modern PMS platforms — especially cloud-based ones like CareStack, Curve Dental, and tab32 — include integrated claims management that eliminates the need for a standalone clearinghouse altogether.
