Vatech EzDent-i Review
Unified 2D/3D imaging and consultation tool bundled with Vatech panoramic and CBCT hardware
Our Verdict
Vatech is a South Korean imaging powerhouse that generated $291 million in revenue in 2023 and holds a dominant position in dental digital radiography worldwide. EzDent-i is their 2D imaging software platform that ships with Vatech's panoramic and cephalometric X-ray units, while Ez3D-i handles CBCT volumes. Nine out of ten dental offices in South Korea use Vatech X-ray systems. Globally, the company competes head-to-head with Dentsply Sirona and KaVo Kerr for CBCT market share. If you are buying Vatech hardware, EzDent-i is the bundled software -- and it is genuinely capable. If you are not buying Vatech hardware, this review is mostly academic.
Best For
Budget-conscious practices wanting high-quality 2D and 3D imaging without premium prices. Ideal companion for Vatech hardware.

What Is Vatech EzDent-i?
EzDent-i is Vatech's 2D dental imaging software designed to work seamlessly with the company's panoramic and cephalometric X-ray systems (Pax-i, Pax-i SC, PaX-i3D, and others). Its companion product, Ez3D-i, handles 3D CBCT volume rendering and analysis.
Together, these platforms cover the full imaging workflow: image acquisition, enhancement, measurement, annotation, implant simulation, nerve canal mapping, cephalometric analysis, patient consultation, and case documentation. The software is designed so clinicians can diagnose and consult on the same screen simultaneously -- a workflow optimization that sounds minor but saves real time when you are showing a patient their panoramic while marking up findings.
Vatech is publicly traded in South Korea and employs roughly 310 people. The company's hardware portfolio includes everything from basic panoramic units to premium CBCT systems, and EzDent-i serves as the software backbone across the product line.
Who Is It For?
EzDent-i is for practices that have purchased or are purchasing Vatech imaging hardware. It is bundled with the equipment and optimized for Vatech sensors and units.
General dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, and implantologists all benefit, though the feature set skews toward diagnostic imaging and implant planning rather than specialty-specific workflows. Practices that do a high volume of implant cases will appreciate the built-in simulation tools. Orthodontic practices benefit from cephalometric analysis in the companion modules.
If you are using non-Vatech hardware (Dentsply Sirona, Planmeca, Carestream), EzDent-i is not relevant -- you will use the imaging software that comes with your equipment. This is a hardware-tied ecosystem, not an open platform.
Key Features
2-in-1 Diagnosis and Consultation: View, diagnose, and present to patients on the same screen simultaneously. Mark up images with annotations and measurements while the patient watches -- effective for treatment acceptance.
Image Enhancement: Revamped sharpening tools and Max Sharpening for extracting diagnostic detail from 2D radiographs. Adjustable contrast, brightness, and filter overlays for optimizing image readability.
Implant Simulation: Two-step implant planning -- measure the site and select the tooth number, and the software generates a virtual fixture and crown for simulation. Quick enough to do chair-side during a consultation. Not as powerful as standalone implant planning software (like Blue Sky Plan or coDiagnostiX), but capable for straightforward cases.
Nerve Canal Mapping: Trace and visualize the inferior alveolar nerve canal for pre-surgical planning. Important for implant cases in the posterior mandible where nerve proximity is a concern.
Consult Box: A media management system for organizing consultation resources -- photos, videos, documents, and educational materials -- into custom folders accessible within the software. Useful for building a library of case presentations and patient education content.
Case Documentation: Generate PDF case reports with annotated images, measurements, and findings. Save and retrieve cases within EzDent-i for longitudinal tracking.
Ez3D-i (3D Companion): For practices with Vatech CBCT units, Ez3D-i adds full 3D volume rendering, cross-sectional views, MPR navigation, implant planning with library fixtures, airway analysis, and TMJ evaluation.
Pricing
EzDent-i is bundled with Vatech imaging hardware and is not sold as a standalone product. The cost is effectively embedded in the hardware purchase price. Vatech panoramic units typically range from $15,000 to $25,000, while CBCT systems range from $50,000 to $120,000 depending on the model and field of view. Refurbished Vatech equipment (available through dealers like Renew Digital) can be found at 30-50% discounts.
Software updates are generally included with active service agreements.
Pros
- Tight integration with Vatech hardware for reliable image acquisition and processing
- Clean 2-in-1 workflow for simultaneous diagnosis and patient consultation
- Capable implant simulation for straightforward planning cases
- Competitive hardware pricing compared to Dentsply Sirona and Planmeca
- Global company with $291M in revenue and strong long-term viability
- Ez3D-i companion provides solid 3D CBCT analysis without third-party software
Cons
- Only works with Vatech hardware -- completely locked ecosystem
- Not sold separately, so you cannot use it with other manufacturers' equipment
- Implant planning is basic compared to dedicated platforms like Blue Sky Plan
- User interface is functional but not as polished as Planmeca Romexis or Dentsply Sidexis
- Limited third-party integration with practice management systems
- Cephalometric analysis requires additional modules
The Bottom Line
Vatech EzDent-i is solid bundled imaging software that does its job well within the Vatech ecosystem. The 2-in-1 consultation workflow, implant simulation, and image enhancement tools are genuinely useful for everyday clinical work. The hardware-software integration is seamless in a way that third-party software pairings often are not. The limitation is obvious: you are locked into Vatech hardware. If you are already buying Vatech (and many practices should -- the hardware is well-regarded and competitively priced), EzDent-i is a capable part of the package. If you need advanced implant planning or cross-manufacturer compatibility, you will supplement with standalone software anyway.
